Coordinated Management of the Mahaweli River Basin in Sri-Lanka |

Mr Nalin Pothuwila has recently completed his MSc thesis entitled “Coordinated Management of the Mahaweli River Basin in Sri-Lanka” at UNESCO-IHE. The objective of this study was to determine optimal allocation policies between the hydropower and irrigation sectors in the Mahaweli river basin taking into account the hydrologic uncertainty. A SDDP model with 6 reservoirs, 6 hydropower stations, and two irrigation diversions was developed.
